Floydada Junior High Technology

Floydada Junior High school started with 1 to 1 technology immersion project in 2004-2005 school year. The project started with the awarding of the Technology Immersion Pilot Grant from the Texas Education Agency.  Floydada Junior High was one of 22 schools to receive funding as an immersion school. The grant allowed for the purchase of a package that included hardware, software, and staff development for the teachers at the school.

Floydada Junior High chose the Apple package that was offered and began to equip the 1920’s model building with upgraded infrastructure and wireless access using apple airports throughout the Junior High.  In October of 2004 the students of Floydada Junior High were issued their laptops. Students quickly adapted to the use of the computer as a learning tool.

Teachers at the Junior High had been issued their laptops back in the summer and had attended several days of staff development. The training helped teachers to become familiar with a variety of uses and teaching techniques the new laptops could provide for students and teachers.

Now in the Junior High the use of laptops is commonplace everyday.  Teachers expect students to use and implement the technology into the learning process.  Students have had great success, and have produced some very high quality products with the use of their laptops.
